Hello Mountain Lions!
Come support one of our very own Kinder Cubs Kalea Ramos and family this week by purchasing a “Kalea Strong” bracelet!
Kalea is a sweet, vibrant, funny and energetic Kindergartner from Mrs. Bernstein’s class that was diagnosed with Leukemia on October 22, 2017. She has an extremely rare form called “Mixed Phenotype Acute Leukemia” (also known as MPAL) which represents only 5% of Leukemia cases. It is very difficult to treat due to its rarity.. Kalea has already endured a lot for a little one but is holding strong. Kalea is undergoing treatment at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego and has completed several rounds of chemo. Treatment is likely to extend beyond two years and will likely include a bone marrow transplant. As you can imagine this has been a very stressful time for her family.
Kalea has two siblings (currently at Salt Creek) and two loving parents (Mike and Angie) that have taken much time away from work to be with Kalea during her stay at Rady’s. We would like to help ease a little of their financial worry so they can focus on Kalea’s health.
Tuesday 11/28 through Thursday 11/30 we will be selling bracelets in support of Kalea before and after school. The bracelets are purple (Kalea’s favorite color) with pink writing. Gift donations for these Bracelets will be $5 (cash only). 100% of proceeds will be given to Kalea’s family. Please help us by purchasing and wearing a “Kalea Strong” bracelet to show your support.
We will also be tying purple ribbons around the school to show Kalea how much support she has within her Salt Creek family. Keep an eye out for other events that we will be hosting to show our support.

How would you like to have your original drawing as the cover of the 2017-2018 Salt Creek Yearbook? Well here is your chance! All interested students please submit your original drawing no later then Thursday, November 9th for a chance to have your drawing considered for the cover. All drawings must meet the following guidelines:
- Be your original work.
- Include “Salt Creek Elementary” and “2017-2018” somewhere on the drawing.
- Drawing must be done on an 8.5” X 11” piece of white copy paper.
- Art should be drawn portrait style and not landscape style.
- On the back of your submission, please include your first and last name, teacher, and room number.
So be creative and have fun! We recommend that you use bright colors but stay away from neon colors as they do not reproduce well. All submissions should be turned in to the office to be considered. The winner will be chosen by a student vote of all eligible entries on Monday, November 13th.
If you have any question, please contact Désirée Castañares at email@example.com
This year’s interest list for the Entrepreneur Academy was higher than usual. Although we are excited to see so many students eager to participate, we cannot accept all applicants due to space and management. Applications were numbered in the order they were received at the front office, and we extended the limit to the first 57 applicants. Names of those who were accepted on a first come, first served basis will be posted in the front office window by mid-morning tomorrow. Thanks for understanding. This high interest will help us when planning for future academies. We look forward to a great program!
Due to extreme heat, students will be in the Multipurpose to watch a movie in lieu of outdoor recess – this is MANDATORY for today. As we continue to experience hot weather, please ensure that your child stays hydrated (they can bring a water bottle to school) and wears loose, comfortable clothing. In addition, P.E. activities will be modified or held indoors.
All interested 4th, 5th, and 6th graders – sign up for our Entrepreneur Academy this year! Classes start October 30th and are held from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the MPR. In this project-based experience, you will learn the basics of starting your own business and even manufacture and sell your goods at our Entrepreneur Fair on Dec. 7th! The first 50 4th-6th grade students to apply will be accepted. Please turn in signed forms to the front office ASAP. Thanks!
