The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, or CAASPP, has replaced the Standardized Testing and Reporting, or STAR Program. The Smarter Balanced test for 3rd-6th grade, as well as the traditional 5th Grade CST/CMA Science test will be administered. The schedule is as follows:
- 3rd Grade/Week of April 27
- 4th Grade/Week for May 4 (Mr. Maes 3/4 combo class will test with 4th grade)
- 5th Grade/Week of May 11
- 6th Grade/Week of May 18 (Mrs. Parra’s 5/6 combo class will test with 6th grade)
- 5th Grade only/May 7
Due to the transition to new standards, the State has suspended API/AYP this year, however, parents, schools, and Districts will receive score reports. To learn about the types of questions on the computer based test, you and your child can view the practice test online at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sa/practicetest.asp.
Last year and this year students have been participating in field tests and practice of the Smarter Balanced assessment, and parents can help children do their best on these assessments by ensuring that they get plenty of sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, arrive to school on time, and promote a positive and supportive test-taking attitude.
I’m confident that our Mountain Lions will do their best! If you would like to access the information shared about end of year testing at the last Coffee Chat, please click the link below.
